Environmental Lighting Study

The lighting study provides a review of the potential environmental impacts associated with artificial lighting and will not consider any specific impacts from any other infrastructure in the Project area. The study shall briefly define the area of impact, behavioral impact (migratory, nesting, and mating) on the sensitive marine receptors & cumulative effect. In addition, the aspects like waste & energy efficiency will also be evaluated and selection of Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO) for lighting. The lighting study will also not consider any health and safety impacts as these aspects are assessed in a separate study.

The purpose of an Environmental lighting study is to identify and evaluate, the likely significance of the potential impacts on identified receptors and natural resources. The lighting study can be utilized as an identification of potential environmental impacts associated with the process platform lighting in Offshore plants and will not consider any specific impacts from any other infrastructure in the Project area as well as, any health and safety impacts of the lighting on fauna.

The assessment shall be performed for the illumination effect during normal operations and identifying the Area of Influence (AoI) or the extent of area that would be affected by illumination from light sources from the platform. The AoI will be determined by measuring the extent of the light glow transmitted from the outdoor lighting to the furthest distance on the sea surface.

Based on the illumination input from the lighting, Isolux contours will be generated for required lumens range, based on the lumen output of the lightings installed on the platform. Lighting modelling and calculations will be done using Software to produce Isolux contours based on the lumen output of luminaires available on the platform. The respective findings will be assessed to identify any potential impacts on the sensitive/ biological receptors in the environment.

Following are the input documents required for carrying out the Study:

  1. Input Protocol
  2. Luminaire part list
  3. Luminaires (Layout Plan)
  4. Photometric Results
  5. 3D Rendering
  6. Room Surfaces – Work plane Isoclines(E)
