North Oil Company (NOC) awarded Tyco Qatar Fire and Security the contract to install a Deluge Skid package on the AB wellhead platform, part of the “AL SHAHEEN FIELD DBN PWM A and B locations Produced Water Management” project. Elixir Engineering conducted the Structural and Piping stability analysis to ensure operational safety and compliance
Scope of Work for Engineering Studies:
- Piping Stress Analysis
- Structural Design Calculations and GA Drawing Modifications
Execution Methodology:
- Review and Data Collection:
- Reviewed P&ID, preliminary GA drawing, tie-in schedule, and material specifications.
- Verified GRE pipe and fitting properties from approved vendor data.
- Prepared input sheet to collect connecting pipe nozzle loads within Skid battery limits.
- Gathered data from connecting pipe isometrics up to the first anchor point.
- Piping Modeling and Stress Analysis:
- Modeled piping in CAESAR II software, defining fluid, material properties, and external load conditions (wind, wave, seismic) per project requirements.
- Established support types, including specialized supports for GRE piping.
- Conducted stress analysis for various load conditions (thermal, sustained, occasional, transport).
- Validated pipe loads, deflection, and stress within allowable limits; optimized support if stress limits exceeded.
- Compiled Stress and Restraint summaries, updating GA drawings with piping and support adjustments as necessary.
- Structural Analysis:
- Modeled structural members in STAAD Pro per GA drawing, incorporating piping loads (axial, vertical, friction) and external loads (wind, seismic).
- Analyzed structural performance for deflection, torsion, and induced stress, and recommended modifications (e.g., bracing, wear plates) to enhance design life stability.
- Conducted lifting lug, shackle, and anchor bolt calculations to ensure structural integrity.
- Final Documentation and Updates:
- Generated comprehensive reports with analysis summaries and software results.
- Submitted updated GA drawings reflecting recommendations from the studies.
